General Provisions (40 CFR Part 63 Subpart A)

Applicability to natural gas industry

40 CFR Part 63 Subpart A is a general provisions subpart which is used for administrative convenience (i.e., many general requirements are housed in Subpart A and referenced by other portions of the CAA regulations).

40 CFR Part 63 Subpart A applies to National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) found in 40 CFR Parts 63. These standards regulate specific categories of stationary sources that emit (or have the potential to emit) one or more hazardous air pollutants. 40 CFR Part 63 Subpart A requires compliance with standards and maintenance requirements (e.g., maintain air pollution control equipment in a manner consistent with good air pollution control practice for minimizing emissions), development of a startup, shutdown, and malfunction plan (SSM), monitoring, recordkeeping and reporting.

Compliance information

Compliance date: Refer to the applicable NESHAP for specific compliance dates and requirements. In general, Compliance dates for existing sources must be met no more than 3 years after promulgation, and new sources must comply at startup.
